Now that 2011 is well behind us, it’s time to look forward to what might be in store for us in the way of pop music in 2012. While several sources provide access to this type of information, those that we tend to use regularly for up-to-date snapshots of what consumers are into musically are the rankings in iTunes. Following is a summary of the top ten downloaded songs for the first week of January 2012.

The number one iTunes music download for the week is a song by Jason Mraz—I Won’t Give Up. The duo also locked in the ninth place position for the week with their Party Rock Anthem hit which flew to the number one position in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, New Zealand, Switzerland the U.K. and the U.S. last year.
